Challenge
How might we create an engaging, beginner-friendly way to teach Japanese etiquette and basic language skills beyond traditional memorisation methods? Learners often struggle to understand cultural context, which is just as important as vocabulary.

Goal

Process

SOLUTION
A VR game concept where learners build both language and cultural competence in an engaging, story-driven environment. By situating lessons within a social scenario (meeting a Japanese family), the experience reinforces that respect and etiquette are inseparable from learning the language.

OUTCOME
- Delivered a fully developed VR game concept with a clear storyline, mechanics, and interaction flow.
- Produced a video prototype to demonstrate the user journey and gameplay interactions.
- Successfully showcased how game-based learning can blend language practice with cultural etiquette.
- Received positive feedback from peers and lecturers for creativity, immersion, and clarity of learning objectives.
- Strengthened my skills in experience design, storytelling, and rapid prototyping using existing assets.
